Thread Size: What the Accord Takes
Every manual Honda Accord produced between the late 1990s and the 2022 model year uses the same thread specification: M10 × 1.25. That is a 10mm diameter shaft with a 1.25mm pitch between threads.
It holds true across the sixth generation (1998–2002), the seventh (2003–2007), the eighth (2008–2012), the ninth where the manual remained (2013–2017 Sport), and the tenth (2018–2022, 2.0T Sport six-speed). A half-century of consistent engineering.
The eleventh-generation Accord dropped the manual entirely. If you drive one, no knob swap is needed—or possible.
Identifying Your Generation
For practical fitment purposes, the generations break down simply:
- 1998–2007 (Gen 6–7): M10 × 1.25. The shorter throw of these Accords rewards a lighter knob—less mass, more feel.
- 2008–2017 (Gen 8–9): M10 × 1.25. The eighth-gen Sport and EX-L trims came with a slightly taller stock knob. An easy removal.
- 2018–2022 (Gen 10, 2.0T Sport): M10 × 1.25. The best-driving Accord in a generation—and the one most likely to reward an upgrade.
All three generations share the same adapter thread. Buy once.
What Fits
Most aftermarket shift knobs labeled M10 × 1.25 will thread onto an Accord without modification. The Install
Honda's stock knobs are threaded, not pressed or snapped. No tools are required to remove them.
- Shift into neutral.
- Rotate the stock knob counterclockwise. It unthreads in three to five turns.
- Thread your new knob clockwise until it seats firmly against the shift boot.
- Confirm orientation—most knobs are symmetrical, but engraved or directional faces should face the driver.
Total time: under two minutes. No adapters to source separately, no hardware store runs.
The Cabin After
The tenth-generation Accord Sport is a restrained interior—dark headliner, piano-black trim, soft-touch surfaces that reward attention. A crystal knob refracts the dash glow at night. It catches what little light the cabin holds and holds it longer than the plastic it replaced.
